On September 17, the Local Good Governance Coalition (LGGC) sent a request to the cities of Olympia, Lacey, Tumwater, Yelm and to Thurston County asking that they adopt a Resolution to Protect the Constitutional Rights of its residents.
The Local Good Governance Coalition consists of local organizations and interested individuals who have come together to advocate for and engage in meaningful community participation in local land use, environmental and housing issues in Thurston County.
Members include the League of Women Voters of Thurston County, Olympia Indivisible, Sierra Club, South Sound Bird Alliance (formerly Black Hills Audubon Society),Thurston Climate Action Team, SPS Habitat for Humanity, Restoring Earth Connections, and the Clean Black Lake Alliance.
With Good Governance as its name, the Resolution was prompted by members’ growing concern about the federal government’s assault on the rule of law and free speech. Cognizant of the history of other countries’ descent to authoritarian rule, the LGGC felt compelled to take a stand now, aware that further erosion of democracy can only be stopped by people’s willingness to publicly oppose unlawful policies and to support those who are being targeted.
You can join the LGGC in supporting the Resolution by sending an email to your local jurisdiction asking that they adopt the Resolution to Protect Constitutional Rights submitted by the Local Good Governance Coalition. And tell them why!
