While WIP depends on volunteers, there are some essential expenses that we must pay with funds from advertisers, subscribers and donors.
To pay for printing and production costs for 3000 copies of the paper at 16 pages, we need to raise about $400 each month beyond the revenue we receive from our long-term advertiser/supporters.
To be able to produce a 20-page paper, and to upgrade to a better quality of paper would cost another $200 per month.
In 2017, donations from individuals plus subscriptions brought in about $1200. A grant from the Workers’ Defense Fund covered some of our monthly printing and production shortfall, and allowed for work to upgrade the Works in Progress website.
In addition, and importantly, volunteers contribute to our financial viability by covering their own expenses for everything from gas for distributing the paper to a host of miscellaneous charges.
