repeal and replace
clarity with smog
kindness with clenched fists
governance with profit margins
bridges with barricades
empathy
with anarchy
repeal and replace
justice with leverage
the earth with scorched shards
the constitution with impulse
hope with dread
repeal and replace
democracy with dynasties
a free press with soldered muzzles
grace with a snarl
repeal and replace
handshakes
with a flick of a smirk
“..but he hasn’t got anything on!”
the boy in the crowd yelled
the emperor shivered
frost crackling his spine
they were right.
but pride, habit
hunger for the next applause
pushed him forward
and so he marched on
head high
as the as the noble ones
trudged behind
holding aloft the train
that wasn’t there at all
