Climate Convention advances Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan

Thurston Climate Action Team (TCAT) sponsored the fourth South Sound Climate Action Convention at The Evergreen State College on Saturday, May 17th. The all day event brought together a diverse group of community leaders interested in climate action. The event featured nearly 50 speakers, 18 sessions, and three plenaries as well as a reception at the end.

This all-day event was kicked off with opening remarks by KC Golden, a member of the Northwest Power and Conservation Council and a national leader on climate action. KC providing entertaining and thought-provoking commentary. He ensured us we can make the changes necessary if we work together. The event culminated in remarks from Washington Lieutenant Governor Denny Heck, who encouraged participants to keep up the fight.

The day featured a variety of sessions on everything from the climate impacts on our health, water, and economy to community organizing and social justice. There were sessions on how to meet the goals of the Thurston Climate Mitigation Plan – especially through legislation, and climate action on buildings and transportation. Over 160 people attended.

TCAT would like to thank the 43 generous sponsors, knowledgeable speakers and the hard-working volunteers who made this event possible. TCAT will be posting slides and photos from the Convention on the website. They can be found at: https://thurstonclimateaction.org/south-sound-climate-convention/

This was a great event. It makes me proud to be a part of a community that is doing so much to address climate change.
